Who owns the newspapers and TV stations in your country? Do you think this has an effect on the news that you hear?

There are a numerous of newspapers and TV station in Malaysia which are the place of collection date and spread the message to everyone. Newspapers and Tv station will be provide the latest news for people to get themselves updated which happened around their country. In Malaysia, there are over 30 newspapers published mainly in Malay, English, Chinese and Tamil. The most prominent newspapers include The Star, theSun, Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Nanyang Siang Pau.

Newspapers Company in Malaysia can be divided into 2 types which is government and private company. For example, The Star is an English-language and it is tabloid-format newspaper in Malaysia. The star is owned by the government of Malaysia that published by Star Publications Berhad. The Star is majority-owned by the Malaysian Chinese Association which is also the second-largest party in the ruling Barisan Nasional alliance. Besides that, Sin Chew Daily is the leading Chinese-language newspaper in Malaysia that owned by the private company which is Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad.

According to the web source Wikipedia, There are three Tv channel in Malaysia are government public-owned by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and the two television channels terrestrial free-to-air TV1 and TV2 while TV Alhijrah are public government-owner by Al Hijrah Media Corporation. Furthermore, the channel of TV3,NTV7, 8TV and TV9 are private commercial-owned by Media Prima. Worldview Broadcasting Channel are private commercial-owned by Worldview Broadcasting Channel (Malaysia) Sendirian Berhad and it also private commercial-owned by Media Citra Bherhad. Other than that, Astro is one of the popular Tv station Company in Malaysia. Astro is owned and operated by Astro Television Network System Sdn Bhd where fully owned subsidiary of Astro Malaysia Holdings Sdn Bhd that owned by Astro Holdings Sdn Bhd. 

            People have the right to choose to believe the news whether is true or not. For me, I believed that the news comes from newspaper and TV is trustworthy compare to internet source. This is because newspaper and TV news reported have to go under investigation of a subject, performs research and conducts interviews to gather information before they spread out the message to the audience. So, the information that the reports gather are trustworthy and not a creation from somebody imagination. Besides that, the news spread out from the internet we cannot fully trust it because it add a lot of non-sense that not related to the thing. But the news from the official newspaper’s website likes The Stars online and the sun online can believe because it gives the news that comes with the proofs.

For conclusion, News can be provides in many types of media, I believe that most of the people will prefer newspaper and TV more than other sources because it is still the best way that the fact of news we can trust but not the news which have been modified and spread around the internet.

News and you. How often do you read the paper or watch the news on TV? How important is it for you to keep up with current events?

News is the communication of information on recent and important events. People always want to get themselves updated with the latest news which happened around the world. The only way for them to get updated is by using various media to get the latest news. The media that often used by the human will be newspaper, television, radio and internet. Why news is important for us? Because it able to let us know what happened around us and it also makes ourselves more interesting so the gap between us and society will be not big.

A newspaper is a publication that was issued daily or weekly and includes local and international news stories, advertisements, announcements, opinions, cartoons, sports news and television listings. It is an important method to let the public know everything that recently happening in their local area and around the world. Even with the advance of technology, newspapers still continue to be an important aspect of everyday life. I was started to read newspaper when I was studying in secondary school. Usually, I prefer choose the most interesting headline or picture before I started to read the article and newspaper. From that time onwards, it slowly becomes my habits to get updated with the world. After I enter the University, because the time I spent on surfing internet is much more on the newspaper, so normally the news and information are easily for me to get through the internet compare to daily newspaper.

Television news programs will be provides the updates on world, national, regional or local news events from time to time. Television news is very image-based and it showed video of many events that are reported. When I was young, I seldom to watch newscast on television program because I think that the channel are boring compared to other television programs. When I grow up gradually, I still accompany my father watching the news together during night time. Although I’m still studying, but whenever I go I will get updated with the latest news by reading newspaper or watching TV news.

For sure, I believe that news is important for everyone. Although newspaper and television are old media, but there are still a lot of people prefer on this way because it is cheap where don’t need to face to a device for a long period and also accepted by everyone. Eventually, newspaper and television can said that it deliver the message to audience from time to time without any problem.

What is theatre? How do you think theatre, as a media form, communicates messages to its audience?

What is theatre? According to Wikipedia, Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music or dance. Elements of design and stagecraft are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience. The specific place of the performance is also named by the word "theatre" as derived from the Ancient Greek.

There are many type of theatre such as Cinema, drama, Opera and music theatre. For me, I think Cinema is one of theatre that using projectors to deliver message to the audience with the audio that came out from the cinema speaker. Audiences get the message that show on the cinema white screen and the movie shown on the white screen is controlled by computer devices.  Audio is standing an important part in the cinema. For example in the horror movie, people will get scary with the audio more than it’s visual.

Drama theatre is performed by actors on a stage and it is the formal and stylized use of costumes, makeup, scenery, lighting, music to deliver the message to the audience. The Costumes of the actors tell the character of each actor on performance. Lighting is one of the important parts on the stage because it can lead the audience to focus on the certain scene and action. Music generally includes both spoken dialogue and songs and some forms of drama have incidental music or musical accompaniment underscoring the dialogue.

Besides that, Musical theatre is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of the piece are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment to deliver the message to the audience. Although musical theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like opera and dance, it may be distinguished by the equal importance given to the music as compared with the dialogue, movement and other elements of the works.

For conclusion, theatre is one of the media that can entertain to the audience, carry out the communicate messages to the audience. So, we can say that theatre brings much advantage to human beings.

Print media is commonly used term referring to the medium that disseminates printed matter. Print media include such forms as newspapers, magazines, books and newsletters.

3. Digital media

Digital media is digitized content that can be transmitted over the internet or computer networks. This can include text, audio, video, and graphics.  It means that news from a TV network, newspaper and magazine that is presented on a Web site or blog.

Art media is focuses primarily on the visual arts, which includes the creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, drawing and other visual media.

Photography is an image or picture made by exposing light sensitive film with a camera. Photography is a presentation of life’s reality. The images may vary in so many ways due to the uniqueness of each person taking it and each subject being featured.

Animation is a simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures, or frames.  Cartoons on television are one example of animation. Animation on computers is one of the chief ingredients of multimedia presentations.

Essay 
Identify at least 4 social /cultural group and what media you think they use?

Nowadays, media is important for everyone and it has become a part of our daily life. People are always use more than one media in a day such as television, radio, newspaper, mobile phone and so on. Not all the people are using the same media, it depend on the needed of the user. Media user will change through the age and it can be categories in social group. Social group can be defined as when two or more persons who interact with each other which similar characteristics will be share and come out with the sense of unity.

One of the social groups that have been identify is the children which the age around 2-13 year old.  With the modern technology, children nowadays are not just sitting in front of the television to watch the cartoon or drawing on the paper. They are starting to touch the media such as mobile phone, PSP and video games. We can easily found children as young as two years old are playing with an electronic device anywhere. This is a way that parent easier to make their children stay in one place by giving them an electronic device to play with.

Secondly, the other social groups are the teenagers. Most of the teenagers nowadays spend a lots of time sit in front of the computer, so that the media often use by them will be social networking such as social media, YouTube and blogging. Social media is a place for them to get connect with their friends and easy to update their status. They are most likely to spend lots of time on social networking to keep in touch with their friends, watching video and listen to the music.

The third social groups that can be discussed are the workers. Worker is also known as employer and they are spending lots of time in the office. The media often use by them I think will be smart phone, social media and email. Through this media, they able to do the advertising through online and easily fulfill customer demands and reach them by sending them an email.

Lastly, the social groups are the old folks. Normally old folks are the aged from 55 years to later. Most of the old folks at this kind of age known as the retire person which always stay at home. The media often use by them will be the old media. Old media are traditional means of communication before the existed of the technology of internet such as television, radio, newspaper, telephone and cassette tapes.  It can be said that are related with the old materials from 19^th century which some of them still available at this century.

In the conclusion, social groups can divided into many groups which can determine who they are and understand their culture. Furthermore, we can be said that different social groups have their own objective to be achieves by using different kind of media.

4. Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is a method of inquiry employed in many different academic disciplines, traditionally in the social sciences, but also in market research and further contexts. Qualitative researchers aim to gather an in-depth understanding of human behavior and the reasons that govern such behavior. The qualitative method investigates the why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when. Hence, smaller but focused samples are more often needed than large samples.

Ethnography is a qualitative research design aimed at exploring cultural phenomena. The resulting field study or a case report reflects the knowledge and the system of meanings in the lives of a cultural group. An ethnography is a means to represent graphically and in writing, the nature of a people.

Essay Topic-Describing your thoughts on media use.

Media refers to various media of communication and the messages that are distributed through the technology. In modern daily life, people will be contact with various types of media in a day. With the improvement of the technology nowadays, we can send, share or even exchange the information through media from time to time or whenever where we are. The media that using connects with friends or people is commonly known as social media.

Social media is one of the media that had existed for a long time but now it is become more well-known compared to before because it is convenience for the people communicate to each other. It has contributed a lot to our lives and it slowly changes the ways of how the people think and act for it. From social media, we can categorize many parts such as social networking, online video, blogging, and podcasting. But the main roles play by the social media is knowledge sharing, networking, information delivery and group discussion.

For nowadays, I believe that all of us will be agree that the most common and popular social media will be Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and Youtube. Let’s take Facebook as example to discuss, for me Facebook is playing as a part of my daily life and it has makes my life become much easier to get connect and updated with the news of my friend from time to time. Other than that, Facebook still can do with many others thing such as creating group for discussion, chatting with friends whenever they are or even video chatting which can live face to face communicate, and playing social games as well. 

Blogging is one of the social media that already become part of daily life of teenager. In other words, it can be said that is daily diary for certain teenager. Nowadays the teenagers like to express their feelings and their activities by blogging. For those their friends that follow theirs blog is to get themselves stay closer to them by knowing what recently happen to them. Actually for me, blogging is quite enjoyable because we can share our experience and comment to friends through the blog.

At last, with the improvement of technology nowadays, not just only computer can access to the media, we also can access media by using our mobile phones which known as smart devices. For me I believe that media is important for all the people nowadays. It’s will slowly take part in our daily life that people cannot afford without it.  From that, we should get use of  media from now on but not over it because it also has its pros and cons.
